Luna's GS441524 FIP New Drug Trial Update - Day Four

We discussed her 12-week course of treatment at home, daily temperature monitoring, and frequent weight checks. Today she had her lab work repeated. Her temperature's now 99.9, the lowest since we've had her! Her weight is 4 lb 2 oz, which she weighed when she was full of fluid on admission. She's gaining "real" weight! Also, as of yesterday, her heart murmur was nearly undetectable.
Everything is pointing in a positive direction, for sure. Luna should be discharged home on Wednesday. Dr. Pedersen had me give her a shot today so that I could practice and they could observe. As a nurse, injections and IVs are one of my favorite things to do (I'm weird!); however, it's not the same when it's one of your own and with fur, claws, and teeth! I did get the medication into her quickly and easily. She was a little vocal and then made a "catatonic" looking face for a split second, pinned her ears back, shook it off, and went to her food bowl like it was no big deal. She handles the shot better than the rectal temperature--and who can blame her there!
Dr. Pedersen suggested we head outside and enjoy the beautiful weather, so we did more hiking. It's good that we love to hike and don't mind doing it for several hours at once. It helps keep our minds occupied and ease the anxiety of the unknown.
