Luna's FIP GS441524 Drug Trial Update - Day Three

LUNA'S BATTLE WITH FELINE INFECTIOUS PERITONITIS AND A LONG-AWAITED, LIFE-SAVING DRUG TRIAL GS-441524 EVO984 2017

Today is a quiet weekend day at the clinic. We met Dr. Montgomery again at 9:00 a.m. and walked into Luna's room to find a very vocal and playful Savannah girl! Today it was pretty clear her abdominal distention is improving. Her coat appears brighter and less "fluffed up," as seen in the photo below, compared to a week ago.

Luna wanted to play with the ball and feather teaser more aggressively; this is the most playful she has been since her symptoms became noticeable almost two weeks ago! Luna's temperature was 100.4, so staying within a healthy range. Dr. Montgomery also noticed that she seemed weak in her back legs when running around. Who knows whether that's connected to FIP, but we'll talk with Dr. Pedersen about that tomorrow.

She received dose #3 of the drug; this time, she was vocal about it for about 20-30 seconds before exploring the room, hiding under the cage, and playing with the feather toy.

This evening, Dr. Montgomery updated us that Luna's temperature was still average, her demeanor playful, and her children played with her for a bit. I'm sure she's bored and lonely alone during the weekend, but she must heal properly again.

We keep telling ourselves what Dr. Pedersen said at the start of the trial, "this is a TRIAL, not a TREATMENT." That said, everyone's still cautiously optimistic and pleased with her response to the drug thus far. It's so hard not to get overly excited about her progress! Dr. Pedersen's been working on a FIP treatment/cure since the 1960s. Here's to this being the breakthrough he's worked on so diligently!
